Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is a community based hospice service providing support for children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families in the Central and North London boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Islington and Hertsmere.
The children have a range of conditions and often have very complex needs. Their services aim to help the children, siblings and parents make the most of the time they have together, and the charity continues to support the families after bereavement. These services have always been provided at the child’s home, but the intent with the construction of the hospice is to now provide a dedicated facility.
This is a new build project situated in the Green Belt on the edge of a conservation area. The building itself is a cross-shape, creating four distinct wings, providing in-patient facilities, a communal central space, plus office, bereavement suites, therapy and play areas (inside and out), and accessible sensory gardens.
Although there is no Planning requirement for BREEAM, we have been advised that we will be progressing with providing a “Very Good” facility.
There is a lift to transport between lower and upper ground floors, a back-up generator, and funds have been provided specifically for provision of a green roof.
The central atrium will provide communal space and reception areas, allowing free movement between the main entrance and the conservation area to the rear of the building.
