The Old Vic is London’s independent not-for-profit theatre, a world leader in creativity and entertainment. It is the crucible of many of the performing arts companies and theatres in London today and is located just south-east of Waterloo Station.
Following a review of terrorism security, the Old Vic were given funding to undergo this project. It was the start of what they expect will be a full refurbishment of the building in the coming years. The project involved installing updated specification doors, security and lighting updates and a full redecoration of the external elevations.
The key challenge on this project was working within a live building, the project needed robust management throughout the works. The theatre also did also shut down on all Wednesdays from 1pm for Matinee performances, this had to be factored into our programme. The works required a high public pedestrian foot fall area and was managed by a well-maintained 8build branded set up, including monarflex to limit risk of falling materials etc.
