8build & M3 Join Forces to take on the Challenge at St John's Catholic School
What we did: On May 16th 2008, we joined our sister company M3 by taking 12 members of staff off of the construction site for the day to help tackle 5 key tasks for St John’s Catholic School in Rotherhithe, London.
Why we did it: We recognise that the industry we operate within impacts on the workplace and local environments of people around us. As a result we want to contribute to and support our employees, customers and the local community. At 8build we believe there is nothing more important than ‘Giving Back’ and schools play a vital role within the community in providing the foundations of our future generations.
Results: After an early morning start on May 16th and a bit of bad luck with the trains in the morning, 8build and M3 successfully achieved all the tasks the school had requested. This involved some serious elbow work such as sanding down the walls and painting a school corridor, a small Math’s room and a larger IT room.
Additionally as a result of the rain holding off, we were able to repaint the safety lines on the outdoor steps and rails that had naturally deteriorated over time. Further more those creative members of the team designed and painted an underwater mural on one of the brick walls surrounding the playground area. This proved to be a key focal point of interest for the children and one girl requested a ‘pink seahorse’. The day was enjoyed by all and throughout the afternoon the teams were entertained by the children putting on a performance in the school playground.
Ultimately we want to encourage others within the industry to take this opportunity to ‘give something back’ via the London Better Together Day or other means. Volunteers are guaranteed a fantastic day with an opportunity to network with colleagues, be part of a committed team and make a positive difference in the local community.
