8build support Rick Ashworth in 2008 UK Ironman Triathlon

We have donated money to Rick Ashworth, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes which was contracted at the age of 29 on a backpacking trip around the world three years ago. Type 1 develops if the body is unable to produce any insulin. Usually it appears before the age of 40 and is the least common out of the two types of diabetes and accounts for 5-15% of all people with diabetes. Currently there are over 2.3million people with diabetes in the UK alone and there are up to another 750,000 people with diabetes who have the condition and don’t know about it.

This year Rick is taking part the Rotary-UK Ironman 70.3 Triathlon on June 15th, to help raise funds for Diabetes UK along with Rotary’s other thoroughly worthwhile causes. This involves swimming 19km, followed by a 56 mile bike on and a half marathon on unforgiving terrain. We wish Rick the best of luck for June.
