8build onsite at Landmark Titanic Visitor Attraction

Southampton City Council are developing a landmark visitor attraction which is fundamental in promoting the regeneration of the Cultural Quarter within Southampton.

The visitor attraction will occupy the west block of the Civic Centre, a Grade II listed building constructed in the 1930’s for use as a Magistrates and Coroners court. The visitor attraction is to open in time to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the voyage of the Titanic.

The visitor attraction will provide two permanent galleries and one temporary special exhibitions gallery:

  • Gateway to the World - recounts stories of people who have departed and arrived in Southampton Port
  • Titanic Story - focuses on the hidden history of the RMS Titanic’s crew
  • Temporary special exhibitions gallery – this will host a dynamic range of temporary exhibitions, however, the first temporary gallery will be ‘Titanic, the Legend’ which focuses on the international fascination with the story of the Titanic

The works consist of fitting out all three of these exhibitions to a high quality with showcases and set works throughout, along with mock ups of the titanic boiler room, bridge and cabins. The fit out works for the ‘Titanic Story’ and the ‘Gateway to the World’ exhibitions take place within the listed building. The fit out for ‘Titanic, the Legend’ will take place in the new build extension constructed adjacent to the existing listed building.
